Small catered wedding or big potluck wedding?

The chapel I booked gave me a special discount for inviting under 25 guests. I also booked the reception there and got another discount and got the reception hall for free. I invited immediate family and two of my closest aunts who are like sisters to me. Well of course that pisses of everyone else b/c your whole family is supposed to be invited. I have a budget of $ 1000, to cut costs I’m using silk flowers and ordered a white bridesmaid dress and found a cheaper chapel. But I want an elegant reception so I want it catered, so that’d be about $ 500 for 25 people. So do I bite the bullet and have a “tacky” reception with everyone bringing a dish to pass(It’s the norm in our family, every family even someone brings a dish to pass and my aunt even suggested this) I’m also unsure of the big wedding because I’m a very shy person and I don’t want to spend the night going around and thanking everyone, I hate approaching people. Also my FI’s family is from Texas and I’ve never met them before, how am I supposed to have a large wedding and give them the attention they need? My bmaid keeps giving me crap about just going to the courthouse and having a big reception. I’m on the verge of tears and don’t want to hear crap from so and so b/c they cant come to my wedding.

Small and catered. Keep it simple. If you have a catering company host, you wont have to worry about cleaning up or washing dishes.
