Can you use any type of artificial plants for an aquarium?

I want to add a little artifical variety to my 55 gallon aquarium. Do I have to only use artifical aquarium plants or can I use any type of artifical plant – like the type you get from the craft department for flower arrangements and what not? I haven’t been able to find any plants that I like that are affordable and I think if it’s safe, making my own would be ideal! Any help is appreciated.

How to Care For Tetra Fish?

I’ve been wanting a saltwater aquarium, but decided to start out with a freshwater aquarium. I’ve chosen tetras. What size aquarium will I need? Do tetras need a heater? What kind of filter do you recomend? Are aquarium hoods sold with the tank, or do I have to buy them seperately? What substrate should I use? What do tetras eat? Should the aquarium plants be artificial or real? Any advice on tetras is appreciated.
