Question by : I’m getting married May 12,2012. My color is Guava. I am thinking about doing my own bouquets in silk flowers?
But Im having trouble deciding on which flowers. I like Sunflowers, the brighter ones but is that a spring flower? Would that look silly? I’m also thinking about Gerber Daisy’s but Im not too sure. Some people say its too early to be thinking about flowers BUT if im doing them myself then I need to get on it to be sure that’s what I would like to do. Please HELP! : )
Since my wedding is on Mother’s Day weekend Im having a HORRIBLE time finding a florist… that’s why I am thinking about doing silk flowers. Also they are a great keepsake : )

I always say, go for something simple and elegant- a hurricane glass with a large candle in your choice of color, surrounded by tealights or real rose petals (cheap from a florist).
Don’t buy fake flowers. If you can’t pull off the real thing, think of a new idea. No one wants to see fakes at a wedding, its poor taste.
What do you think? Answer below!

Sunflowers are definaetely fall flowers….. but would that match with Guava ( I dont really think so), Did you try orchids, white roses would be completely beautiful…. but it might be a little wintery
What color is “guava”? The inside color, exterior color???
I think you should also wait until closer to the wedding and see what is even available to you. You could come up with ideas (flowers, colors) and then see what is available and go from there.
****Whatever you do do NOT do silk that is so tacky and I think that you will regret it.
If you are doing the flowers yourself, you don’t want to buy your flowers from a florist they are more expensive. I don’t know where you live but here in S. California there are farmers markets that usually have people who grow flowers so you can check with someone directly, a flower mart, grocery store, but wait until closer to the date.
Guava is a neutral color, so go with bright colors. Sunflowers would be great, but a little plain for the bride. Maybe surround the bouquets with ivory roses or lilies to simmer down the bright yellow of the sunflower.
Silk works well if you keep it simple. Both sunflowers and gerbera daisies look good as artificial flowers.
You’re correct that you need to start doing this soon, as it gives you time to redo anything that doesn’t come out the way you want it.
I’ve done all the arrangements, bouquets and boutonnieres for several weddings in silk and everyone thought things looked lovely (and not one commented about flowers looking fake.)
Just keep looking at pictures of fresh flowers done up the way you want them. Copy that as closely as you can and all will be well.
