First look at the various types of plants that prefer shady conditions…there are many…and some are very nice. There are many ferns that are beautiful. Artificial lights work great but ask someone in a local greenhouse to suggest the best bulbs to use….fluorescent are better and last longer than incandescent…I grow orchids and have trouble with too much sun…I have to shade them.
Most houseplants don’t need direct sunlight , spiderplants and pathos plants do very well in "darker" areas of the house….
you can cultivate and hang from the ceiling or wall, different types of ferns – they are very pretty and do not need a lot of light. But you need to spray the delicate fronds 2-3x a wk. Artificial lights are good if you have it on at least 6 hours a day
There are many plants that require no direct sunlight or grow lamps. Ferns, Moss, Lichens, Vines and others.
Devil’s ivy, corn plant, and peace lily are good candidates for shady areas. If you like orchids, the slipper orchid is good for semi-shady windows. Artificial lights are really helpful if you can keep them on for at least six hours a day. It’ll allow the corn plant to put out its fragrant blooms and the peace lily and slipper orchid will flower more often.
